Amherst PT

Our Story

Amherst Physical Therapy was founded in 1978 in Amherst, NY and was one of the first outpatient clinics in Buffalo not attached to a hospital. The office moved to a stand alone clinic in North Buffalo at the corner of Delaware and Amherst St. in 1981 keeping its name. In 1988, with the need for additional space, the practice moved to its present location on Delaware Avenue in the Delaware Place Plaza. An expansion of the clinic in 2001 provided increased exercise facilities, equipment and an in-ground therapeutic pool in order to facilitate early rehabilitation for all orthopedic injuries, arthritic conditions and chronic pain syndromes.

In 2016, the practice was sold to Martin Koslosky, PT who had been with the company since 2008 with a vision of modernization and providing a calm and welcoming environment that compliments patient care.

Since 2016, the clinic has seen ceiling to floor updates, including a complete gym renovation that was completed in 2021.

In addition to the visual and equipment updates the clinic had a full information technology (IT) and electronic medical records upgrade to ensure the security and privacy of our patients and their health information as well as to improve our communication with our patients and their doctors.

Amherst Physical Therapy is a member of the Paragon PT Group, American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA).

Frequently Asked Questions

My doctor is referring me to physical therapy. Can I choose where I go?

Absolutely. Your doctor will provide you with a prescription for PT and may direct you where to attend PT.  However, you have the right to choose where to go for your PT/rehab needs based on convienence of location, transportation and the PT’s experience in working with your specific diagnosis or needs. The therapists at Amherst PT will always work with your doctor in order to provide you with the highest quality care and the best possible outcomes.

Do I need a prescription from my doctor to come to physical therapy?

No, New York State Law states that individuals have the right to direct acces to physical therapy without a physician’s prescription for 10 visits or within a 30 day period.  After that, a physician order is required.  Check with your insurance provider to verify that they participate in New York State Direct Access to Physical Therapy.

Your experience will begin with an evaluation conducted with one of the Physical Therapists who will review your medical history, conduct evidence based testing and will help you understand your condition, setting you on your path to recovery. You can plan on spending 60 minutes or more on your first visit. Please dress or bring clothing that is suitable to work-out in and/or be able to easily expose the area that is being treated. All insurance plans are different. We will verify your coverage and co-pay and have that information available for you when you arrive for your first visit. We encourage you to contact your insurance company for this information ahead of time.
